Shed Officer's Home Page

This is the Home Page for Shed Officer Organisation
The role of Shed Officer is of critical importance for the every day running of the shed and general sailing at Woollahra Sailing Club. This home page represents the centre for organising the roster as well as providing a place through the forum where discussion and organisation of 'Cruising' can take place or casual weekday trips can be organised and people found.

What Shed Officers are all about!
The criteria for becoming a shed officer will be that you:

  • First, have an understanding of the organisation and storage system in the USYD shed at WSC. This also takes into consideration, the appropriate treatment such as cleaning and storage of gear.
  • Second, you will be able to correctly rig, sail from and return to the WSC ramp, de-rig and store your gear away to the appropriate place. This level of experience is essential at a minimum so that if a problem occurs (a sailing boat loses its mast/rudder or a learning windsurfer drifts in the wrong direction), you will be able to get the individual and the gear to safety.
  • It is also expected that by reaching this point, you will have personally experienced similar challenges and there for be able to foresee and hopefully solve events before they occur. This also includes making the call that either stops boats or boards entering the water or abandoning the days sailing when the weather conditions change.

The Classic examples would be a beginner taking a Laser or Tasar when you know they do not have enough experience to handle the boat (consider wind strength etc) or a learner windsurfer drifting in the wrong direction, beyond the point of easy rescue (consider wind direction etc). Obviously understanding your capacity to solve the problem in relation to the abilities of the people around you is also critical. The responsibility will be yours.

No one will be appointed to shed officer unless they fulfil the above criteria and can commit to a minimum of 3 weekend sessions (1.5 days) during a 10 week period from the 28th of August to the 31st of October. The Sydney Uni Sailing Club Executive will be the only people who have the right to appoint or revoke Shed Officer Entitlements.

Shed Officers will be the only people who are allowed to access the shed on weekend or during the week and are the only people who should know the code. No boats or windsurfers should ever leave the WSC ramp in the hands of a general member unless an appropriate Shed Officer present.
